The durability of the Porta-Bote hull and hinges have been time tested for over 35 years and is backed with an amazing 10 Year Hull Warranty. There is no need for a patch kit as the Porta-Bote will not puncture or leak.

The Porta-Bote Hull is constructed from “High Impact Poly-Propylene” which is an engineered resin originally developed for use in the aerospace field. This amazing material is even used in bullet proof vests and is resistant to salt, sand, acid and sharp rocks. The Porta-Bote is virtually mainentance free. No painting is ever required as nothting affects the molded-in color and finish. The hull is almost ¼” (.6cm) thick. This is twice as thick as an aluminium hull.

The Porta-Bote hinges can take stress of over 90,000 pounds per square inch. They have been designed so that the higher the pressure on the hinge the more it "wants" to remain sealed. The Porta-Bote Polypropylene hinges have been modulus tested at a rate of over 500,000 openings and closings without failure. In fact, the hinges are actually stronger than the boat itself.

Japanese Hinge Test 

For the past 25 years, the JCI (Japanese Coast Guard) has tested Porta-Bote's space age engineered resin hull and hinges. Every time a shipment enters their country. The now famous "drop test" is used! They load over 600+ pounds (273kg) of concrete filled bags into a folding Portabote. They raise the boat 21 feet (7m). Then it is dropped! Porta-Bote passes every time with "flying colors".
